Chris Columbus Is Planning A ‘Five Nights at Freddy’s’ Film Another video game heads for the big screen.

Game adaptations have a long way to go in order to prove their legitimacy on screen, as so far, it hasn’t gone well for many titles. However, the next game to make the leap from the small screen, is Scott Cawthon’s Five Nights at Freddy’s.

It’s even seeing some major progress, as attached to write and direct the film is Chris Columbus, of Home Alone, Mrs. Doubtfire, and Harry Potter fame, with his work generating more than $4.1 billion at the global box office. So, there’s clearly a lot of faith in this project.

The game itself takes place in a pizza restaurant, the player taking the role of security guard, with the objective of surviving the night shift, by protecting yourself from the pizzeria’s animatronic monsters. Sequels to the originally game have moved the story to different locations, such as a theme park, and a child’s bedroom, in which you must check the closets and under the bed for the creatures.

New Line and Warner Bros. won the rights for the film back in 2014, and Gil Kenan was attached to direct, however, the project was stuck in limbo until last year. Now, budget-horror heavyweights Blumhouse, who picked up the rights last year, has announced that Columbus will be the man to helm the movie.

Blumhouse confirmed the news via their Twitter account:
