Claire Foy trades in her royal finery for tattoos and piercings as Lisbeth Salander in the first trailer for Sony’s The Girl in the Spider’s Web.
The character was first brought to life on screen by Noomi Rapace in the original Swedish Millennium trilogy, before Rooney Mara took on the role in David Fincher’s English version, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo in 2011. However, despite being a huge success, both critically and financially (it even won at the Oscars) Fincher was never able to get off the ground.
Sony is now relaunching the series with all-new talent, both in front and behind the camera on Girl in the Spider’s Web. Based on the novel by David Lagercrantz (who took over writing the Millenium series after the death of Steig Larsson) the story picks up with Lisbeth on a new investigation with journalist Michael Blomkivist (Sverrir Gudnason). The pair find themselves caught in “a web of spies cybercriminals and government corruption” as they try to uncover the truth.
Taking over from Fincher as director is Don’t Breathe’s Fede Alvarez, and in addition to Foy and Gudnason the film includes Sylvia Hoeks (Blade Runner 2049), Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out), Stephen Merchant (Logan), and Vicky Krieps (Phantom Thread).
The Girl in the Spider’s Web is slated for release on November 9th.
