‘Handmaid’s Tale’ Season 2 Gets Premiere Date in New Trailer Gilead is about to get a lot scarier.

The first full trailer for the second season of The Handmaid’s Tale has arrived, giving us an official premiere date, and an appearance from Marisa Tomei.

This new footage offers a look a Gilead’s radioactive “Colonies,” along with Moira’s new life up north, Offred (June)’s imprisonment, and some glimpses of the past.

At The Handmaid’s Tale Television Critics Association panel yesterday, it was revealed that Marisa Tomei will have a guest role in the new season (starting in episode 2) as a commander’s wife in the Colonies. Elsewhere in the season, Alexis Bledel has become a series regular in her role as Ofglen (Emily), while Clea DuVall joins the series as her wife, Sylvia.

The synopsis of Season 2 reads:

“The 13-episode second season will be shaped by Offred’s pregnancy and her ongoing fight to free her future child from the dystopian horrors of Gilead. “Gilead is within you” is a favorite saying of Aunt Lydia. In Season Two, Offred and all characters will fight against – or succumb to – this dark truth.”

Season 2 of The Handmaid’s Tale will premiere on April 25th.
