Agent Carter has been a presence in a large part of the MCU, as a founding member of S.H.I.E.L.D. she has appeared in all three Captain America films, cameos in Age of Ultron and Ant-Man, as well as her own TV series – and if speculation proves to be true, fans could see her return in the big screen in Infinity War.
Back in August, we wrote about some tweets from Marvel Studios’ co-president Louis D’Esposito, which showed D’Esposito with Hayley Atwell during a visit to the studio headquarters.
And while they seemed innocent enough at the time, the pictures sparked a frenzy amongst fans who believe that this visit to Marvel HQ was to discuss a possible appearance (or appearances) from Atwell – in Ant-Man and the Wasp, and/or the next two Avengers films. However, the speculation died down after the revelation that Atwell had been cast in Disney’s Christopher Robin, along with the BBC’s Howards End miniseries, proving that for a while at least, Atwell was going to be extremely busy.
And yet, a brand-new casting call went out earlier this month, that ramped up fan speculation all over again.
On September 15th, Central Casting posted on Facebook a casting call for a movie working under the title Mary Lou (which has been confirmed to be Avengers 3 & 4 for a while now) stating production was looking for women to portray engineers in a small scene. However, it was the requirements for the call that turned heads, stating “no dye, no modern colours or cuts” – suggesting that the scene in question would be taking place in the past, likely a flashback of something pertaining to the films’ events. And naturally, this led many to think that this could include the return of Agent Carter.
Then, just to push fans a little further, Atwell took to Instagram, posting a photo of her wearing mo-cap dots (and the makings of a very Carter-esque hairdo) on a set.
Many suggested that the dots could be for her role in Christopher Robin – but since Atwell is playing Robin’s wife, there would be no need for mo-cap. However, were Marvel to bring back Peggy Carter, they could well be aging her up as they did in Winter Soldier and Ant-Man.
And yes, this is all still speculation, it’s exciting to think Agent Carter could be making a return to the MCU.
