Meet DC’s Answer to The Fantastic Four Say hello to The Terrifics

DC is set to introduce a new team of heroes to their roster, and it’s a team not unlike Marvel’s Fantastic Four.

Building off their Rebirth reset, this new comic initiative has seen a lot of titles return to the status quo, however there have also been a number of exciting new developments in the past year. Marvel alum Brian Michael Bendis will soon begin to write his own version of Superman, while the DC Universe itself is dealing with the fallout of the events in Dark Knights: Metal.

The series brought with it the rise of the Dark Multiverse, which, for the most part led to villainous versions of Batman coming forth and wielding the abilities of the other Justice League members. And, as with many major comic book events, Metal opened the door for a new group of heroes, and a lot more stories to go with them. Aptly entitled ‘The New Age of Heroes’ DC’s new run is giving fresh faces their own stories to shine in, and perhaps the most interesting new team to come from this new venture is The Terrifics.

The Terrifics #1, written by Jeff Lemire and Ivan Reis, follows Michael Holt, a.k.a. Mr. Terrific, following his Dark Multiverse adventures. Journeying along with Michael is the strange Plastic Man (in egg form), who is yet to come out of his repose since his exposure to the new universe’s energies. Along the way, Michael’s mission takes him to Simon Stagg, who is working to open a gateway to the Dark Multiverse using old TerrificTech – the result of which leads to Plastic Man returning to team up with Mr. Terrific, Phantom Girl, and Metamorpho.

Obviously, there are a number of differences between this team and the Fantastic Four – not least the fact that none of The Terrifics are related – but it’s nice to see DC tackling a more scientific style of superteam, and in the wake of the Dark Multiverse storyline, it’s great to see that they are pushing a fresh, new team in order to reset the universe.

The Terrifics #1 is available from all good comicbook retailers now.
