Daredevil’s NYCC panel saw the release of a full Season 3 trailer, in which fans are treated to the return of Vincent D’Onofrio’s Kingpin.
“Daredevil is our true public enemy,” D’Onofrio’s Wilson Fisk declares to his peers.
From here, the trailer explores a little of what the Netflix series will and won’t be taking from the popular ‘80s “Born Again” story arc, with Charlie Cox’s hero having fallen from grace, often in a quite brutal manner.
Following on from the end of 2017’s The Defenders, this season finds a damaged Matt Murdock questioning himself and the methods with which he performs his vigilante duties. It also sees Fisk (no longer incarcerated) making friends in high places, as he tries desperately to turn New York against the Man Without Fear.
Season 3 returns almost two and a half years after the last season debuted on Netflix, and it seems that it will be coming back stronger than ever, led by showrunner Erik Oleson.
Excitingly, this trailer also reveals that Fisk won’t be the only villain popping up in Season 3, as we see that Daredevil will also be facing Benjamin Poindexter (Wilson Bethel) as Bullseye, with Oleson teasing:
“Bullseye is one of the greatest villains in any of the comic books, period. And in order to fit in with the emotionally honest, character-driven version of the show… we wanted to explore the journey of how someone teetering on the edge of lightness or darkness could ultimately become that iconic character. How does Wilson Fisk turn somebody who could be a productive member of society, and who is obviously a heroic member of the FBI, into this iconic villain? [We explore] the way that Fisk could pull a psychological manipulation on him and worms his way into Ben Poindexter’s life in a way that feels real and like it could happen. Marvel gave us a lot of room to do some really cool stuff. We got to go really deeply into how Dex becomes this iconic character, Bullseye.”
Daredevil returns on October 19th.
