‘Riverdale’ Casts Gina Gershon & Trinity Likins as Gladys & Jellybean Jones Jughead’s family is coming to town

Riverdale has added to key characters to the upcoming third season – Gina Gershon as Gladys Jones, Jughead’s (Cole Sprouse) mother, and Trinity Likins as his sister Jellybean.

Series creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa teased the new season at NYCC alongside castmembers KJ Apa, Lili Reinhart, Luke Perry and Mädchen Amick, and while most of the details given were things fans have already heard by now, they did reveal the casting of the remaining members of Jughead’s family.

(Side note from someone for whom this is a massive casting pet peeve: How do both Jughead and Jellybean have blue eyes, if both his parents have brown eyes??)

Gershon has already filmed her first scenes with Apa, Sprouse, and Skeet Ulrich (FP Jones), “And Gina can handle all [of] them,” Perry told the audience, “She’s fun.”

Aguirre-Sacasa also confirmed that Reinhart will have scenes with the new cast members, which means that Betty will at some point be meeting the rest of Jughead’s family. Reinhart said of Gershon, “She just joined. It’s a very new thing.”

The CW, in a press release, described Gladys as “a ‘businesswoman’ who runs the salvage yard (chop shop) that doubles as a Serpent compound, and the Serpents all snap to attention when she gives them an order. A Serpent with a GED, she acts as Fagin to a crew of teenaged car parts thieves.”

As for Jellybean, “she is wise beyond her years, and her favorite bands are Pink Floyd and Black Sabbath. Jellybean lives with her biker mom in Toledo where they run scams to make ends meet. And like mother like daughter: Jellybean — who goes by JB now — is quite the little con artist herself.”

The cast also teased more mysteries in the new season, which will return Bughead to their detective roles, as they explore a “very twisted and very twisty mystery” according to Aguirre-Sacasa.

Reinhart further teased, “I think I would describe the main mystery in the first half of the season [as] there’s sort of an epidemic in Riverdale. It involves everyone in the town and it’s kind of a crisis.”

Riverdale returns October 10th.
