Colossus actor Stefan Kapičić has confirmed that Shatterstar will be appearing in Deadpool 2, currently being promoted as the Untitled Deadpool Sequel, in true fourth wall breaking style.
The first official trailer for the film was debuted last week, after the Super Bowl rush, and while there was a lot to digest, a particularly interesting scene saw Deadpool and a mysterious group of heroes ready to disembark from a helicopter. Fans noticed that next to Ryan Reynolds’ Deadpool was Terry Crews, believed to be playing G.W. Bridge, however many eagle-eyed fans spotted another figure, Iron Fist’s Lewis Tan, possibly in the guise of Shatterstar.
This has now been confirmed by Kapičić in an interview with Inverse, who explained: “That’s not CGI of Terry Crews, that is Terry Crews. You can see it clearly. You can see behind him, Shatterstar, a really cool thing for people to geek out.”
In the comicbooks, Shatterstar is a skilled fighter, who is often aligned with Cable. Originating from another dimension, he was trained in a type of martial arts unknown on Earth. Shatterstar’s traditional weapon of choice is a curious double-bladed sword, which can be charged with energy in order to create powerful shockwaves. It was rumoured last year that Deadpool 2 would feature a number of new characters, including Shatterstar – however, at the time, co-writer Rhett Reese denied the rumours. Now, with the trailer’s release, we can see Shatterstar’s distinctive costume and the strange helmet he wears are clearly visible.
However, Kapičić doesn’t give a lot away, not confirming whether or not the team we see assembled is X-Force or the Six Pack. In the comics, the Six Pack are a mercenary team assembled by Cable, and given the military style seen in the trailer, it seems as though this may be the Six Pack after all – five characters are visible on screen, add Cable and you’ve got six.
Strangely, though, Shatterstar has never been a member of the Six Pack; he only teamed up with Cable in X-Force. This raises some interesting possibilities, as either Fox has redesigned the Six Pack for Deadpool 2, or we’re seeing the first big screen outing of X-Force. It could well be the former, as Fox has never been particularly worried about straight adaptations when it comes to their comicbook movies.
Either way, we will certainly be seeing Shatterstar in Untitled Deadpool Sequel when it’s released on May 16th in the UK and May 18th in the US.
