After the poster’s release yesterday, Sony has released a full teaser trailer for Tom Hardy’s Venom, and though it’s pretty interesting, there’s still no actual shot of Hardy’s Eddie Brock as Venom.
After being lulled into a false sense of serenity from a tranquil piece of wall art, we begin in a hospital, or even a lab, but’s clear that Eddie’s body is being scanned.
“Everyone’s got their thing…”
Comes the thick accent of Hardy’s Brock, over San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge. He walks the street of his hometown, head down, as he goes about his daily business.
“Maybe it’s a breakup…”
Our first look at Michelle Williams’ Anne Weying, before Eddie stands in an empty lab, likely to be where the Venom symbiote is housed.
“A death… An accident…”
The authorities swarm around a crash site, clad in full hazmat suits, they trudge through the long grass, torches being shone around to assess the damage.
“Whatever it is, you used to be one thing, now, you’re something else.”
An unconscious Eddie lies in the scanner. He wakes, clearly disoriented.
“We all have our own problems…”
Riz Ahmed’s Dr. Carlton Drake opens a van that houses the aggressive Venom symbiote inside a case. Then we get into the action. Eddie weaves in between two vans on a motorbike, causing a crash. Warning light glare red in the lab, as the doctors rush in to Eddie.
“Our own issues…”
Eddie runs through a forest, a body falls into water. On the floor, Eddie turns quickly, as we cut quickly to a room of people being thrown from their desks.
Doctors look on as Eddie begins to shake violently, crying out, as we see a glimpse of the symbiote creeping up his neck, blackening his veins.
Then, all too quickly, it’s over.
While we can understand that they’re holding back the look at full-Venom Hardy, it’s still a little disappointing. Nevertheless, it’s a brilliant tease for the forthcoming film, as action-packed, scene-setters go.
Venom is set for release on October 5th.
