Drew Goddard has confirmed that he will be turning his attention to X-Force once he’s done working on upcoming film, Bad Times at the El Royale.
Fox is yet to set an official release for the Marvel team-up that will reunite Deadpool 2 stars, Ryan Reynolds, Josh Brolin, and Zazie Beetz, as Deadpool, Cable and Domino, respectively. However, it has been rumoured that filming will start before the end of this year, while Goddard works post-production on noir thriller Bad Times, which opens this October. Since Fox is the studio behind both Bad Times and X-Force, they have agreed to not rush the Marvel project until Goddard is finished with his current film.
Cinemablend asked the writer/director how he has been balancing working on both projects during a press junket for Bad Times, to which he replied:
“It’s a good question. I’ve learned I’m very much a one-movie-at-a-time kind of guy, and they all know. It’s the same studio, which is nice, so they can say, ‘Okay, get [Bad Times At The El Royale] done,’ and then once I get this movie done and get this into theatres we’ll turn our attention that way.”
Though the impending Fox/Disney deal has left question marks hanging around future X-Men films, given the massive box office success of Deadpool 2, it’s unlikely that X-Force will have much trouble making it to the big screen. For now, Bad Times is shaping up to be a real hit for Goddard, ahead of its October 5th release in the US, and October 12th release in the UK.
